CULTURAL HERITAGE AT THE RAQQAH MUSEUM
Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve
May 7, 2018 | 1:43
Raqqah Civil Council members discuss the future restoration of the historic Raqqah Museum and give a tour to members of the Syria Transition Assistance Response Team in Raqqah city, Syria, May 7, 2018. The majority of the museum’s historical pieces were destroyed or stolen by ISIS and only about 10 percent of the museum’s original collection remains after the city’s liberation in October, 2017. The Raqqah Museum is a historical building constructed in the 19th century as a garrison in the Ottoman Empire and served for years as a tourist attraction and source of local pride. Future restoration of the museum would mean a return to cultural heritage and another step towards normalcy in Raqqah. (U.S. Army b-roll by Sgt. Brigitte Morgan)
