Michigan National Guard Honors Country of Latvia at 101st Independence Day Celebration

Thousands gathered in downtown Riga, Latvia to take part in the 2019 Latvian Independence Day festivities, which were highlighted by the annual military parade. The parade featured dozens allied nation participants, including four members of the Michigan air national guard, representing the United States.
Major General Paul Rogers, the Adjutant General of the Michigan National Guard, was part of the parades official viewing party, with Latvian President Egils Levits, foreign military leaders, and a an assortment of past and present Latvian leadership.
For 26 years, Latvia has been partnered with the State of Michigan in the National Guard’s State Partnership Program. The State Partnership Program has been successfully building relationships for 25 years and now includes 75 partnerships with 81 nations around the globe. the State Partnership Program links state National Guard units with the armed forces, or equivalent, of a partner country in a cooperative, mutually beneficial relationship.
