DUI Safety Stand Down
Marine Corps Air Station Yuma
April 26, 2013 | 2:22
Inspired by 3rd MAW CG’s guidance to approach drinking and driving PMEs in a different venue, Marines from MWSS 371 executed a DUI Safety stand down at Cannon Air Defense Complex and continued with a presentation at MCAS Yuma’s Chapel the next day. The event that took place on April 24 and 25 was a dramatization that offered the real life experience without the real-life risk. The marines witnessed a field sobriety test, the drunk driver being taken away by YPD, victims being taken away via ambulance, one in a body bag, and another mourning the death of his comrades. 16 Marines were informed that they have become a statistic and were sent home for the day without their chain of command knowing. The purpose was to ensure and enforce the proper procedures for accountability throughout the squadron. With the Marine Corps motto being “Always Faithful”, we believe that the Marines seeing the dramatization of fellow Marines killed followed by their funeral and memorial will strike a sudden realization within their hearts that the “Every 15 Minutes” statistic can come from here in this squadron.
