On September 7th, 1997, after six years of development and 44,000 wind tunnel test hours, the first F-22 Raptor took to the skies, becoming the world’s first airborne fifth-generation fighter aircraft. The F-22’s combination of stealth, maneuverability, and lethality paved the way for a new age of air dominance for the U.S. Air Force.
In 2005, the Air Force declared the jet operational. The strategic landscape was forever changed.
More
