America's Army: The Mexican-American War
5th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment
Jan. 27, 2025 | 0:31
As the U.S. Army marks 250 years of service, it's worth remembering the pivotal role the Army played in shaping the nation's borders during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). The war, which lasted two years, had a profound impact on the country's geography and helped define the United States as we know it today.

The Army's sacrifices and achievements during this period are an important part of the nation's history. The war resulted in the U.S. gaining control of a significant amount of land, including present-day California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and parts of Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Wyoming.

As the Army celebrates this milestone anniversary, it's a time to honor the bravery and selflessness of the soldiers who fought and died during the Mexican-American War, as well as those who have served in the centuries since. Their contributions have helped build the United States into the powerful and diverse nation it is today. (U.S. Army video by Sgt. Joshua Linfoot)
