Since April 2014, U.S. Army Europe and Africa has led the Department of War's Atlantic Resolve land efforts. Atlantic Resolve provides rotational deployments of combat-credible forces to Europe to show our commitment to NATO while building readiness, increasing interoperability and enhancing the bonds between ally and partner militaries.
As of Nov. 2021 V Corps has assumed command and control of all Atlantic Resolve rotational forces.
The U.S., Allies and partners will continue military activities across Europe to further develop NATO unity, ensure territorial sovereignty, while also preparing to defeat adversaries if necessary. This ongoing operation will actively leverage training on countering threats from unmanned aerial systems and train for future fights in this large-scale combat operations environment on the modern-day battlefield.
Since Russia’s invasion in 2022, the U.S. has prioritized assisting Ukraine in defending its people, its land, and its independence. Air defense systems, drones, vehicles and ammunition are among the security assistance provided and integrated to ensure Ukraine can defend against missile attack and push back enemy forces.
Operational Atlantic Resolve is part of a larger campaign that seeks to restore NATO to an alliance focused on deterrence and warfighting in Europe. NATO’s mission is to deter aggression and win decisively should deterrence fail. The U.S. will do our part, but it’s time for Europeans to take primary responsibility for conventional defense of their continent, including for security assistance to Ukraine.
