About Resolute Castle

Exercise Resolute Castle is a U.S. Army Europe and Africa led, multinational, joint exercise which marries U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard, as well as allied and partner nation engineering unit training opportunities with the completion of real world construction projects that enhance training capabilities in various areas of Europe's eastern member-states. Resolute Castle is designed to reinforce regional partnerships and promote interoperability with host nation forces by providing improvements to existing infrastructure.

Resolute Castle 24 utilizes U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and NATO engineers to increase partner capacity and strengthen capabilities across NATO’s eastern member states through real-world engineer-related training and the expansion of infrastructure in support of defender-series exercises.

Engineers pave way for Resolute Castle 19 with ceremony
JOINT NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER, Romania – U.S Army National Guard and Army Reserve
Soldiers along with the Romanian Land Forces held an opening ceremony for Resolute Castle
2019, April 24.
Resolute Castle is a training exercise for U.S. Army and NATO engineers that supports
Atlantic Resolve. It is a multinational, joint exercise with real-world outputs of completed
construction projects that build training capabilities in various areas of NATO’s eastern member
states.
“We build interoperability by training together in a multinational environment and
becoming more familiar with each other’s technology and techniques,” said. U.S. Army Maj.
Gen. Miyako Schanely, commanding general of 416th Theater Engineer Command.
Throughout the six-month exercise, various Army National Guard engineering units will
participate, doing three-week rotations. The engineers will build multifunctional administrative
buildings, a gym, and repairing the mobility corridor built from previous exercises. This
opportunity allows the Soldiers to work together with their NATO partners to see how they
operate.
“We build readiness, we build partnerships as we work shoulder to shoulder, making
new friends, solving problems and sharing best practices with each other,” said Schanley.
This year marks the 5th year of Resolute Castle, where the combined engineers have
been working together. Leaders from the U.S. and Romanian forces feel confident that Resolute
Castle 19 will have the same outcome as the others.
“I am also convinced that this year, Romanian personnel will cooperate well with the
American personnel,” said Romanian Maj. Gen. Gheorghe Vlad, Romanian Land Forces staff
representative. “The common benefit of all the participants will be that by working together on
joint infrastructure projects you will know each other better; improve your skills and you will
make a decisive contribution to strengthening cooperation and mutual trust.”
As Resolute Castle 19 officially kicks off, the U.S. Soldiers and their NATO partners will
continue to work closely together to in hopes to accomplish the mission of this exercise.
