About Arctic Shock

Arctic Shock is a combined U.S. and Norwegian exercise supporting the National Arctic Strategy that enhances multi-combatant command relationships, airborne interoperability, and Arctic capabilities. 

The exercise takes place from March 18 to 22, 2024, in Bardufoss, Norway, with around 150 U.S. Soldiers from the 11th Airborne Division and around 100 soldiers from the Norwegian Armed Forces participating. 

The exercise consists of an over-the-pole movement from Alaska to Norway, an airborne jump, and a field training exercise focused on cold-weather capabilities demonstrating the U.S. commitment to defend the High North.

C-17 Globemaster IIIs, with the 701st and 729th Airlift Squadron, conduct cargo training at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida. Air Force Reserve personnel train with the FBI Rapid Deployment Team and Florida Task Force 2, South Florida Urban Search and Rescue. The training provides a unique opportunity for agencies to become familiar with the military aircraft in order to facilitate a quick response time during a contingency. Florida Task Force 2 Leader Pete Gomez explains the importance of the training and inter-agency cooperation. Exercise Patriot Sands is a joint-service exercise coordinated by the Air Force Reserve, designed to integrate first responders from federal, state, local agencies and the military by providing quick response training in the event of a regional emergency or natural disaster.
