About Arctic Shock

Arctic Shock is a combined U.S. and Norwegian exercise supporting the National Arctic Strategy that enhances multi-combatant command relationships, airborne interoperability, and Arctic capabilities. 

The exercise takes place from March 18 to 22, 2024, in Bardufoss, Norway, with around 150 U.S. Soldiers from the 11th Airborne Division and around 100 soldiers from the Norwegian Armed Forces participating. 

The exercise consists of an over-the-pole movement from Alaska to Norway, an airborne jump, and a field training exercise focused on cold-weather capabilities demonstrating the U.S. commitment to defend the High North.

Soldiers of the Indiana National Guard's 438th Chemical Company prepare before a Slovakian live agent exercise that uses mustard, sarin, and vx to build confidence in their training during Toxic Lance 2019. Toxic Lance is a two week national exercise utilizing real-world chemical warfare agents with the aim of training appropriate interoperability of small multifunctional CBRN units. The State Partnership Program continues to evolve to meet Combatant Commanders’ security cooperation objectives and U.S. national security goals while maintaining relationships with some of our staunchest allies and partners in every corner of the world. With regular collaboration, Indiana is invested in its international partners and plans to only increase in future exchanges and engagements.
