The origins of TRIDENT Refit Facility, Kings Bay (TRIREFFAC-KB), trace back to 1989, during the height of the Cold War, an era marked by tumultuous tensions between global superpowers. This facility was created to support Ohio-class Trident submarines, which are central to the nation's nuclear deterrent strategy.

TRIREFFAC-KB emerged from the need for a dedicated and specialized center capable of performing extensive maintenance and refits on these advanced submarines.

Today, TRIREFFAC-KB remains a critical asset in maintaining strategic deterrence and maritime security; and continues to be a cornerstone of the U.S. Navy's submarine fleet maintenance and modernization efforts.
