U.S. Army Rangers assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Raid and Liberation of Cabanatuan Prisoner of War Camp at the Cabanatuan American Memorial, Philippines, Feb. 1, 2025.
On Jan. 30, 1945, U.S. Army Rangers, Alamo Scouts, and Filipino guerrillas launched a daring mission behind enemy lines to free over 500 Allied POWs from a Japanese camp in Cabanatuan, Philippines. This bold operation saved prisoners who had endured the Bataan Death March and brutal captivity, securing their freedom before imminent execution. This rescue mission became known as the “Great Raid,” and is still hailed today as one of the most successful military raids in history. This commemoration pays tribute to the liberators.
