Allies Spirit

Allied Spirit is a U.S. Army exercise for multinational partners, conducted at 7th Army Training Command training areas at Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels, Germany.

Unlike other USAREUR-AF exercises, which feature U.S. brigade combat teams in a lead role augmented by Allies and partners, Allied Spirit places an Allied unit as the main training audience. While U.S.-led, this exercise will develop and enhance NATO and key partner interoperability and readiness across specified warfighting functions.

The Ohio Army National Guard recently received the military items of World War II veteran Hamilton S. Cole, a combat medic assigned to Cannon Company, 145th Infantry, 37th Infantry Division. Cole was decorated with the Silver Star and Bronze Star Medals during the Luzon Campaign in 1945.

The items included Cole's uniform, decorations and medical equipment as well as letters written to his mother during the war. The collection was donated by Cole's family after his death in December 2017 and was made upon the recommendation of the 37th Division Veterans Association.

The 37th Infantry Division's lineage is carried on today by the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
