Allies Spirit

Allied Spirit is a U.S. Army exercise for multinational partners, conducted at 7th Army Training Command training areas at Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels, Germany.

Unlike other USAREUR-AF exercises, which feature U.S. brigade combat teams in a lead role augmented by Allies and partners, Allied Spirit places an Allied unit as the main training audience. While U.S.-led, this exercise will develop and enhance NATO and key partner interoperability and readiness across specified warfighting functions.

Wearing a Legacy
1st Marine Division
Nov. 22, 2016 | 1:51
Marines with 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, participate in a ceremony honoring the legacy of the French fourragere award aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Nov. 22, 2016. The French fourragere is a military award given to units as a whole for meritorious acts of conduct in action. The heroic acts of valor made the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments the only two units of the American Expeditionary Force to receive the fourragere. Marines display the award with a green and red braided rope with a spike on the end worn around the left shoulder of the service alpha uniform. The 5th and 6th Marine Regiments hold ceremonies twice a year to honor their history and to present new unit members with their own fourrageres. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. Justin Huffty)
