Allies Spirit

Allied Spirit is a U.S. Army exercise for multinational partners, conducted at 7th Army Training Command training areas at Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels, Germany.

Unlike other USAREUR-AF exercises, which feature U.S. brigade combat teams in a lead role augmented by Allies and partners, Allied Spirit places an Allied unit as the main training audience. While U.S.-led, this exercise will develop and enhance NATO and key partner interoperability and readiness across specified warfighting functions.

Operation Tomodachi Humanitarian Aid
31st Marine Expeditionary Unit
March 27, 2011 | 3:13
U.S. Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and Navy Sailors with the forward deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD-2), transport Japanese utility vehicles, food and water supplies on a Landing Craft Utility (LCU), from Kesennuma, Japan to Oshima, Japan for humanitarian aid during operation Tomodachi. The 31st MEU's involvement is part of a larger U.S. government response, after a 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck Japan causing wide spread damage. The 31st MEU is ready to support our Japanese partners and to provide assistance when called upon. (U.S. Marine Corps motion imagery by Lance Cpl. Chance M. Hiser).
