African Lion is U.S. Africa Command’s largest and premier annual multinational exercise led by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa and executed in four countries: Morocco, Ghana, Senegal and Tunisia. The exercise sets the theater for access and bolsters interoperability among partner nations. Southern European Task Force, Africa, establishes the exercise’s combined joint task force headquarters, integrating AFRICOM components and international partners to solve a complex, trans-regional crisis. U.S. participants come from all service components, including the Reserves and National Guard.
Agile Spirit is a biennial, joint, multinational exercise co-led by the Georgian Defense Forces and U.S. Army Europe and Africa. Military personnel from allied and partner forces normally participate in the exercise. These include: Belgium, Bulgaria, Georgia (host nation), Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Allied Spirit is a recurring exercise designed to prepare a multinational brigade in support of NATO deterrence initiatives. Unlike other U.S. Army Europe and Africa exercises, which feature U.S. brigade combat teams in a lead role augmented by Allies and partners, Allied Spirit places an Allied unit as the main training audience.
