Aug. 27, 2018 | 3:09
Brig. Gen. Kenneth Hara, Deputy Adjutant General, Hawaii Army National Guard and Joint Task Force 5-0 commander, and 1st Lt. Derek Hirsch, MEDEVAC Black Hawk pilot and officer in charge of Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Regiment, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii, conduct interviews and briefings about the Hawaii National Guard and Active Duty soldiers responding to Hurricane Lane on Aug. 27, 2018.
Local authorities and the state of Hawaii, through JTF 5-0, requested HH-60M Black Hawk helicopters with hoist capability to assist local authorities with recovery operations on the Isle of Hawaii. (U.S. Army video by Pfc. Megan L. Martinez, 28th Public Affairs Detachment)
JTF 5-0 is a joint task force led by a dual status commander that is established to respond to the effects of Hurricane Lane on the State of Hawaii. The Hawaii National Guard and Active Duty soldiers of the task force remain committed to monitoring effects and incidents across the State of Hawaii to respond to any requests made by local and state authorities through FEMA.
