UNGA- Leaders' Summit on Peace Operations
U.S. Department of State
Sept. 28, 2015 | 17:20
The summit will build on the vital contributions that many countries make to peace operations today – with more than 100,000 troops and police, deployed on four continents, in often difficult conditions But the summit will ask more of the international community, aiming to generate a new wave of contributions and commitments to strengthen peace operations today and prepare it to meet the threats and challenges of tomorrow.
Hosted by the US Government with participation by President Obama and Secretary Kerry.
President Obama, the UN Secretary-General, and several heads of state and government will co-host the summit to advance this initiative by convening the leaders of countries that are committed to strengthening peace operations and prepared to make significant, new, and concrete commitments to such operations. The summit will also aim to encourage reforms to make UN peacekeeping more effective, complementing parallel efforts, notably including the work of the Secretary-General’s High-Level Independent Panel on Peace Operations.
