Veterans in Blue 2017 - Thomas Fagan
3d Audiovisual Squadron
May 30, 2017 | 2:42
Veterans in Blue is a multimedia collection showcasing men and women who have contributed to the legacy of the Air Force.
Thomas Fagan, a self-proclaimed stickball player from New York, joined the Air Force at the height of the Vietnam War and served as a missileer at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, in 1968. In an unfamiliar location and a different career field than he expected, he initially questioned whether the Air Force was a good fit. However, he soon discovered a strong brotherhood in the Air Force, which inspired him to tackle his job with a relentless dedication to excellence. Throughout his 30-year career, he served as a missile combat crew commander, was one of eight military personnel chosen to build the U.S. nuclear war plan, and had the opportunity to lead the Joint Chief of Staff Nuclear section. Colonel Fagan’s career culminated at F.E. Warren AFB where he served as the wing commander in 1991 and retired as the 20th Air Force vice commander in 1998. He remained in the local community and has contributed significantly to Cheyenne in various positions such as the Air Force Chief of Staff Civic Leader Group and Chief of Staff for former Wyoming Representative Cynthia Lummis. Fagan credits his success to lessons he learned during his Air Force career.
