USAREUR-AF International Tank Challenge

U.S. Army Europe and Africa, along with our NATO and Partner Allies, annually host a Tank Challenge. This training event is designed to give participating nations a dynamic and productive environment in which to foster military partnerships, form Soldier-level relationships, and share tactics, techniques and procedures.

The European International Tank Challenge was formerly known as the Strong Europe Tank Challenge. Images, video and stories that are older will appear under that name further down the timeline.

B Co 1-163rd Conducts MOUT Training, Fort Harrison, MT

Soldiers from Bravo Company 1-163rd Combined Arms Battalion conducted a company assault as part of military operations in urban terrain (MOUT) this drill weekend at Fort Harrison. The exercise is designed to build tactical unit cohesion, develop battlefield leadership skills at all levels, and sharpen the edge of our Montana Army National Guard Soldiers for future missions.

The exercise began with Bravo Company being air assaulted to a landing Zone (LZ) by CH-47 helicopters from the 1-189th General Support Aviation Battalion based out of Helena, Montana. From the LZ, Bravo Company foot marched to the MOUT site where they began their assault. They fired blank and simulated (SIM) rounds while moving towards their objectives as opposing forces (OPFOR) employed SIM rounds as well in an attempt to delay or stop their advance. This sort of direct contact training allows our Guard members, Soldiers and leaders, to react to real time conditions and changes on the battlefield.
