U.S. Army Europe and Africa, along with our NATO and Partner Allies, annually host a Tank Challenge. This training event is designed to give participating nations a dynamic and productive environment in which to foster military partnerships, form Soldier-level relationships, and share tactics, techniques and procedures.

The European International Tank Challenge was formerly known as the Strong Europe Tank Challenge. Images, video and stories that are older will appear under that name further down the timeline.

Soldiers from the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team conduct urban operations training in a live fire shoothouse at Range 24, Yakima Training Center, Washington, April 6, 2025.

The footage captures multiple infantry squads deploying under the 2-162 Infantry Battalion (Volunteers Battalion) guidon as they execute tactical room clearing procedures with live ammunition during Operation Djibouti Dawn Annual Training. The video includes both overhead catwalk perspectives and first-person action camera footage from participating squad members, concluding with the training cadre's demonstration "Hero Run."

This critical training prepares soldiers for the unit's upcoming deployment to the Horn of Africa, where they may encounter complex urban terrain requiring these specialized close-quarters battle skills. The shoothouse environment provides realistic scenario-based training that tests and reinforces the unit's standard operating procedures for building clearance operations.
