USAREUR-AF International Tank Challenge

U.S. Army Europe and Africa, along with our NATO and Partner Allies, annually host a Tank Challenge. This training event is designed to give participating nations a dynamic and productive environment in which to foster military partnerships, form Soldier-level relationships, and share tactics, techniques and procedures.

The European International Tank Challenge was formerly known as the Strong Europe Tank Challenge. Images, video and stories that are older will appear under that name further down the timeline.

Corps of Engineers release water from Perry Lake as flood pool has reached capacity

To ensure dam safety, the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began flood water releases from Perry Lake in Kansas Sunday, May 26, 2019 as runoff from severe weather filled the reservoir’s remaining storage capacity. Water on the ground caused the lake to rise above pool elevation 920.6 feet and into surcharge operations. Releases have begun and currently being released at 10,000 cubic feet per second. The maximum discharge rate may need to be higher depending on the magnitude of inflows. Once the reservoir pool elevation begins to drop the maximum releases will be held until the pool has dropped below 920.6 feet.

As pools at Corps lakes rise, additional personnel including park rangers, maintenance personnel, and engineers from the Kansas City District Office routinely inspect the dam, the spillway, the outlet, and other important structures. These inspections are part of our procedure as lake levels rise to ensure public safety and continued performance of the dam. All dams are structurally sound and are preforming as designed.
