U.S. Army Europe and Africa, along with our NATO and Partner Allies, annually host a Tank Challenge. This training event is designed to give participating nations a dynamic and productive environment in which to foster military partnerships, form Soldier-level relationships, and share tactics, techniques and procedures.

The European International Tank Challenge was formerly known as the Strong Europe Tank Challenge. Images, video and stories that are older will appear under that name further down the timeline.

SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH)
“In the JFAC (Joint Forces Air Component) we can synthesise the capability to design, manage and analyse air operations air operations at the component level. So as you know in NATO we have a strategic and operative (sic) level, a tactical level, we have the components, land, maritime and air.

The JFAC is the entity that can manage the air component in the battle. The DARS (Deployable Air Control Centres’ Recognised Air Picture Production Centre and Sensor Fusion Post) is a terrific capability that is, in a sense, unique. First of all because it’s deployable, second of all because it’s the synthesis of the capacity of a radar search in the airspace that can be synthesized in this actual shelter, as you can see, and provide to the air component commander and to the joint commander.
The certification is something that is absolutely needed to be able to employ the capability for real. So the JFAC certification that we succeeded to reach in Poggio will allow the capability to be offered for the NRF (NATO Response Force) 2016. So if NATO will need an air component capability in 2016, it can use the Italian JFAC for it.
