A NATO fleet of ships, submarines and aircraft converge on the Polish port of Gdynia for the largest submarine rescue exercise of its type in the world. Broad international interest means observers from both NATO and non-NATO countries attend this tri-annual deployment.
The objective of Exercise Dynamic Monarch is to train international crews in maritime rescue. These complex procedures, carried out on the seabed, require specialized craft and state-of-the-art technology which are vital for quick and safe evacuation of personnel in distress.
Exercise Controller Christiaan Kruisbrink explains the importance of international cooperation for this exercise.
Polish Navy Engineer Lieutenant Dariusz Olas describes emergency evacuation procedures which use a special survival suit.
