Hawaii Air National Guard Conducts Emergency Aeromedical Evacuation Of Critically Ill Child From American Samoa
154th Wing, Hawaii Air National Guard
June 25, 2011 | 2:27
Early this morning, a Hawaii Air National Guard KC-135 Stratotanker crew from the 203rd Air Refueling Squadron performed an emergency aeromedical evacuation of a critically ill 18-month-old child from Pago Pago, American Samoan to Honolulu, Hawaii. The little boy was suffering from respiratory failure and needed immediate medical attention that could be provided in Honolulu. The child was taken from Joint Base Pearl Harbor- Hickam to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children where he is listed in critical but stable condition. For privacy reasons the Hawaii National Guard is not releasing the name of the child. The Hawaii Air National Guard received the call Friday morning and launched the KC-135 a short time later. The aircraft returned to Hickam with the boy around 1:00 a.m. this morning. The aeromedical evacuation was coordinated between the Hawaii Air National Guard and the 13th Air Force’s 613th Air and Space Operations Center's Air Mobility Division. Available in high definition.
