(From left) Brig. Gen. Glenn Goddard, Commanding General of the 353rd Civil Affairs Command, joins Mr. Jean-Pierre L’Honneur, Mayor of Carentan; Mr. Bertrand Froger, who spearheaded the project; and Mr. Louis Fauny, Mayor of Saint-Hilaire-Petitville, in unveiling the new Maj. John E. Tucker memorial site in Saint-Hillaire-Petitville, France, June 5, 2017. Maj. Tucker was killed during the construction of the bridge, the only passageway between the towns of Saint-Hilaire-Petitville and Carentan after D-Day. The ceremony commemorates the 73rd anniversary of D-Day, the largest multi-national amphibious landing and operational military airdrop in history, and highlights the U.S.' steadfast commitment to European allies and partners. Overall, approximately 400 U.S. service members from units in Europe and the U.S. are participating in ceremonial D-Day events from May 31 to June 7, 2017.
