AMFREVILLE, France - A memorial ceremony for the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division was conducted June 4 as part of the 72nd D-Day commemorations. The Paratrooper in the statue represents Pvt. Joe Gandara, a 2nd Squadron, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment Paratrooper during World War II who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor March 18, 2014, for singlehandedly destroying three enemy machine guns while taking devastating fire before he was fatally wounded.
