High School Cyber warriors take 1st, 2nd place in annual cyber challenge

Falcons take the Bataan Death March
A group of nine Soldiers with 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment conducted a re-enactment of the 32nd Annual Bataan Death March Virtual Edition here in Grafenwoehr, Germany on April 17, 2021 to remember the Soldiers and civilians that were involuntarily forced to complete the deadly trek by the Japanese Army in 1942.

Wiesbaden lodge named Army’s best
The Wiesbaden Army Lodge and its staff took home two of four possible awards in the Army’s esteemed annual Army Lodging Recognition Program. The Wiesbaden MWR facility was honored as the Best Large Lodging Operation in the Army. The Lodge’s Augustus Blair was named the Army’s Best Supervisor of the Year.

Public Health Command Europe veterinarians support the Iditarod
Maj. Gretchen Powers, the chief of Outpatient Services at Veterinary Medical Center Europe, examines a dog during the 2021 Iditarod. Two Army veterinarians from Public Health Command Europe recently volunteered to travel to Alaska to support one of the most physically demanding sporting events in the world, the Iditarod. The Iditarod is a nearly 1,000 mile sled dog race that has been held in March since 1973.

2CR uses April Fool’s Day to educate about misinformation and disinformation
April Fool’s Day is a chance to prank family and friends. The public affairs section of the 2d Cavalry Regiment took the opportunity join the fun but to educate, as well. On April 1, 2021, 2CR posted on its social media platforms that it changed its name from “Dragoons” to “Dragons.” The justification stated saving money on ink and paper and to address frustrations with autocorrect.

Second COVID vaccine dose prepares Cougar Battalion for Defender-Europe 21 - CLICK FOR MORE IMAGES
Over 70 Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, received their second and final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Feb. 24 in Wiesbaden, Germany. The Cougar Battalion frequently supports multi-national partner training and major exercises, including the upcoming Defender Europe 21 series of exercises, in addition to constant Army fixed-wing operations.

Overseas Housing Allowance survey open – your input affects your housing rates
The annual Overseas Housing Allowance Survey for Germany is open March 1 -31, and all service members are highly encouraged to provide input. The results of the survey directly impacts the amount of housing allowance each service member receives, as the overseas housing allowance is a cost-reimbursement based allowance. Spouses are encouraged to complete the survey if the service member is unavailable Service members assigned to Germany for longer than six months and receiving OHA for off-post rental housing, including those sharing rent, should take the survey at http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/ohaSurvey.cfm?ID=mar-util

12th CAB fixed-wing operations essential to Army’s mission in Europe
Echo Company of the 1-214th Aviation Battalion, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, based at Wiesbaden Army Airfield provides a unique capability to the U.S. Army Europe-Africa commander that many people do not know exists. Army fixed-wing aviation provides small jet and turbo-prop platforms such as the UC-35 and C-12 that can fly quickly over long distances and land at small airfields.

2nd Cavalry Regiment designs and prints masks for Soldiers

Noticing global shortage in personal protective equipment, Capt. James Scholfield, squadron surgeon, 4th Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, enlisted the assistance of Maj. Brian Mims, senior physician assistant, 2CR, in order to successfully design and 3D print face masks to offer comparable protection to the N-95 medical respirator to Soldiers. These 3D printed reusable face masks have been distributed across both the 2nd Cavalry Regiment and the installation, increasing the ability to safely training during the pandemic.
