Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Tumey, a combat medic from the 18th Medical Command at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, explains what motivates him to participate in the 2020 Army Best Warrior Competition in Fort Shafter, Hawaii Oct. 6.
Tumey is competing for the prestigious title of Noncommissioned Officer of the Year against ten other NCOs and has mastered a series of benchmarks throughout the year to qualify for this Department of the Army Competition. Due to the coronavirus, this years competition is being held virtually with competitors competing at their home stations, and the competition will culminate with a virtual knowledge board presided over by the Sergeant Major of the Army. Soldiers live fire FPV drones in Germany

Soldiers conducted a live fire of first-person view drones for the first time at the Grafenwoehr Training Area, Germany, Feb. 17-20, 2025. Although drones have been incorporated into training for years, this event combined FPV drones with live munitions in a series of live fire flights, all within range safety standards. The success is a result of collaboration between U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command, 7th Army Training Command, Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine and the 173rd Airborne Brigade.
