DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

Soldiers with Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI) participate in a situational training exercise to evaluate and  sustain task proficiency to prepare soldiers for real-world operations on Fort Drum, New York, April 2, 2025. The training strengthens the company’s ability to execute coordinated fire missions, enabling quick and accurate support for ground operations to maintain combat readiness and tactical effectiveness.
