DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

U.S. Marines with Marine Corps Scout Sniper Course, School of Infantry East traverse various terrains during the first portion of a land navigation evaluation at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Sept. 18, 2023. This course marked the last iteration of the Scout Sniper Course at the School of Infantry – East, which has trained Marines and other service members in long-range precision fires and field craft necessary to provide reconnaissance and surveillance to commanders in support of combat operations.
