DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Ospreys from Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., arrive at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz. to load and transport Airmen assigned to the 56th Fighter Wing to participate in the 944th Fighter Wing Exercise Desert Hammer 25-1 at Gila Bend Air Force Auxiliary Field, Ariz. Nov, 13, 2024. The joint service exercise, with over 700 participants and 131 aircraft, allowed the Airmen to practice operate, defend, and sustain airbases alongside other forces and under simulated austere conditions mimicking what they may encounter in a real-world deployment environment.
