DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

In this video release on August 21, 2023, Lexi Olson, a senior majoring in speech-language-hearing sciences at the University of Minnesota, shares her enthusiasm as an undergraduate summer research assistant at the National Military Audiology and Speech Pathology Center at Walter Reed, the President's Hospital. Olson's internship, made possible through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), offers her a unique educational opportunity to collaborate with diverse minds, gain fresh perspectives, and delve into impactful research projects, including the development of hearing protection evaluations for military populations.
