DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

7th Special Operation Group (Airborne) Soldiers lead Fast Rope Insertion and Extraction System (FRIES) training for service members and police officers from Barbados, Netherlands, Guyana, Mexico, Dominican Republic, St. Lucia and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda and St. Kitts and Nevis during TRADEWINDS 24 (TW24) in Barbados, May 8, 2024. TW24 is a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored, regionally oriented annual exercise and is part of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s Large Scale Global Exercise 24, a series of all-domain military exercises executed alongside Allies and partners around the globe.
