DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

U.S. Marines from 7th Engineer Support Battalion assigned to Marine Corps Engineer Detachment - Palau, sweeps for any possible unexploded ordnance (UXO) in preparation for future airstrip construction at Peleliu, Republic of Palau, April 5, 2023. UXO clearance takes place prior to any construction projects to ensure the safety of the site. During this rotational deployment, Navy Seabees and Marine Corps engineers undertake infrastructure projects which benefit local populations in the Indo-Pacific and enhance the United States’ ability to render support and aid in response to disasters or other crises.
