DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

U.S. Marines and Republic of Korea Marines conduct a bilateral weapons familiarization course during Korea Marine Exercise Program 23.3 in the Republic of Korea, Aug. 1, 2023. KMEP is conducted routinely to maintain the interoperability, proficiency, and combined readiness of the ROK-U.S. forces. The Marines are with 3d Battalion, 5th Marines and are forward deployed in the Indo-Pacific under 4th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division as part of the Unit Deployment Program.
