DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

U.S. Marines with Bravo Company, Marine Barracks Washington, conducted fire team attack drills at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, on May 6, 2025. The training focused on enhancing small unit leadership, communication, and tactical proficiency through dynamic live-fire exercises. By executing coordinated movements under simulated combat conditions, Marines reinforced core infantry skills critical to mission success. These exercises ensure that Marines assigned to ceremonial and security duties in the National Capital Region remain combat-ready and proficient in warfighting fundamentals.
