DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

U.S. Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and U.S. Navy Sailors with the amphibious dock landing ship USS Comstock (LSD 45), conduct a resupply at White Beach Naval Facility, Okinawa, Japan, July 22, 2024. The Marines and U.S. Navy Sailors worked together to onload fresh produce and frozen food in preparation for the upcoming float. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the USS America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations, the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
