DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

The U.S. Army dedicates the Sergeant First Class Jared C. Monti Research Facility and Combat Lab during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Natick Soldier Systems Center on April 7, 2025. The new facility will support innovation and Soldier-focused research in honor of Sgt. 1st Class Jared C. Monti, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor after sacrificing his life in Afghanistan in 2006 while attempting to save a wounded Soldier. (U.S. Army video by Pfc. Abigail Stewart)
