DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

MEDITERRANEAN SE (Jan. 15, 2024) AV-8B Harriers, attached to Marine Medium Tilt Rotor Squadron 162, and MH-60S Helicoptors, attached to Helicoptor Sea Combat Squadron 26, launch from and land on the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) flight deck off the coast of Volos, Greece, Jan. 15. Bataan is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe area of operations, employed by U.S. Sixth Fleet to defend U.S. allied and partner interests.
