DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

Nicholas Kostovny, inspector-instructor, Alpha Company, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, speaks on the crew-level gunnery training exercise conducted by his unit on Fort Barfoot, Virginia, April 3-4, 2024. This training prepared the Marines for this year's Integrated Training Exercise 4-24, the Marine Corps Reserve's premier annual training event held at the Marine Corps Air-Ground Training Center, Twentynine Palms, California.
