Press Release - One U.S. Soldier killed and one hospitalized in training accident in Hungary

CAMP CROFT, Hungary —

One U.S. Soldier died and one was hospitalized following a training accident that occurred on June 5 near Camp Croft, Hungary.

At approximately 1:00 p.m. Central European Time, the soldiers were involved in a vehicle rollover accident while conducting regularly scheduled training.

One soldier was medically evacuated by helicopter to a local hospital from the accident site in critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries. A second soldier with potentially serious injuries was evacuated by ground to another hospital, where he was determined to be in stable condition, and was kept overnight for observation. The remaining soldiers were taken to the unit's Role 1 medical facility for further evaluation and monitoring and have returned to duty.

Local Hungarian authorities and the Army Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further details will be provided as they become available.

We are grateful for the Hungarian National Emergency Services for their quick response and ongoing assistance to our soldiers. The name of the soldier is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
