WIESBADEN, Germany —
Avenger Triad 24 is a U.S. Army Europe and Africa command post exercise with participants from the U.S. Army, NATO, and 10 participating countries including: Estonia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, and Spain. The exercise will occur from September 9-19, 2024, in multiple locations across Europe.
The exercise will incorporate lessons learned from Austere Challenge 24 by implementing new operational concepts, doctrine, and procedures, increasing readiness, enhancing interoperability between the U.S. Army and Allied nations, and informing regional planning.
“This is NATO convergence in practice, at a scale we have never seen, with five Allied Corps fighting alongside the U.S. Army’s V Corps,” said Col. Michael J. Weisman, U.S. Army Europe and Africa spokesperson. “Avenger Triad 24 capitalizes on lessons learned during Steadfast Defender 24, the largest NATO exercise in decades, and DEFENDER 24, the largest U.S. Army exercise in decades, to strengthen interoperability and build confidence.”
As part of the exercise, U.S. Army Europe and Africa will simulate undergoing a transfer of authority into the NATO command structure by acting as the lead element of NATO land forces. USAREUR-AF will command and control U.S. and NATO multinational forces, including one U.S. and five NATO Corps headquarters, in a constructed, computer-assisted environment.
Major participating units and organizations include U.S. Army Europe and Africa, U.S. Army 21st Theatre Sustainment Command, U.S. Army V Corps, U.S. Army 56th Artillery Command, U.S. Army 2nd Multi-Domain Task Force U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division, U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army Reserve 200th Military Police Command, U.S. Army Reserve 3rd Medical Command (Deployment Support), the U.S. Army Reserve 416th Theatre Engineer Command, the 1st German-Netherlands Corps and the 2nd Polish Army Corps.
As NATO’s Operational Command for Northern and Central Europe, Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum will provide support via NATO’s Multinational Corps Northeast and the NATO Allied Rapid Reaction Corps.
The exercise aims to develop closer integration and refine processes between U.S. Army and NATO forces. It will also provide the opportunity to experiment and assess Army 2030 force structure and capabilities, including the theatre strike effects group, theatre information advantage element, long-range fires battalion and armoured division of 2030.
As threats evolve around the world, so must the tactics and standards of our forces. Computer-assisted command post exercises like Avenger Triad are a perfect venue for testing new, cutting-edge technologies, concepts, and formations in a simulated environment.
