Media Advisory: 2nd Cavalry Regiment to conduct media engagement ahead of deployment

Feb. 8, 2022

WIESBADEN, Germany —

The 2nd Cavalry Regiment will host a media engagement opportunity on Feb. 9  at 10:30 a.m. CET at Rose Barracks in Vilseck, Germany, as they prepare for the regiment's movement to Romania, as announced last week by the Department of Defense.

The media engagement will include a brief statement by Col. Joe Ewers, commander of the regiment, and the opportunity to observe the preparation and loading of Stryker combat vehicles for their deployment to support NATO allies and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO Article V.

The 2nd Squadron, 2nd Cav. Regt. will deploy to Romania in the coming days from their post in Vilseck and will augment the more than 900 U.S. service members already in Romania. This Stryker Squadron represents a combined arms unit of lightly armored, medium-weight wheeled combat vehicles.  It is designed to deploy on short order and provides a rapid and flexible mobile anti-tank formation.

Founded in 1836, the 2nd Cavalry Regiment has the distinction of being the longest active serving cavalry regiment in the United States Army. Today, the regiment is a modern, rapidly-deployable self-sustaining force with a proven record of providing decisive land power and contingency response capabilities to combatant commanders.
