FORT KNOX, Kentucky —

The V Corps will host a ceremony to formally announce the corps’ fully operationally capable status during a 10 a.m. event Wednesday, Nov. 3, on Ft. Knox.

The ceremony will be in front of the V Corps headquarters which is part of the Maude Complex on base. The officiating officer will be Gen. Michael X. Garrett, U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) commanding general, and hosted by the V Corps commanding general, Lt. Gen. John S. Kolasheski.

"Combatant commanders know they can count on highly-trained and ready Army forces as they implement the National Defense Strategy around the world," said Gen. James McConville, Chief of Staff of the Army when the Department of the Army announced the activation of V Corps. "The activation of an additional Corps headquarters provides the needed level of command and control focused on synchronizing U.S. Army, allied, and partner nation tactical formations operating in Europe. It will enhance U.S. Army Europe and U.S. European Command as they work alongside allies and partners to promote regional stability and security."

The V Corps was originally activated in 1918 during World War I and fought in the Lorraine, St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne campaigns earning the name “Victory” Corps. The Corps later took part in the World War II D-day Invasion and liberation of Europe, defended Western Europe during the Cold War; the Soldiers of the V Corps also saw service in the Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The Corps built strong partnerships and maintained an enduring presence in Europe until its inactivation at Wiesbadens’s Schloss Biebrich in 2013.

Due to COVID-19 risk reduction measures, in-person attendance to the ceremony will be by invitation only. Attendees will be required to wear a mask or show proof of vaccination in accordance with Fort Knox regulations. The ceremony can be viewed live on the V Corps Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/VCorps or Twitter at https://twitter.com/VCorps.
