WIESBADEN, Germany —
The 1st Cavalry Division Forward transferred authority of the Atlantic Resolve Headquarters Mission Command Element to 1st Infantry Division Forward during a ceremony July 15.
The ceremony took place at Forward Operating Site Poznań, Poland.
The Atlantic Resolve Forward Division Headquarters serves as the intermediate headquarters between U.S. Army Europe and Africa and U.S. regionally allocated forces deployed throughout the eight eastern European Atlantic Resolve countries of Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
In February 2018, the 1st Infantry Division deployed to Poznań, Poland, for the first time as the Mission Command Element of Atlantic Resolve. This deployment continues that tradition of excellence today as the Forward Division Headquarters.
Brig. Gen. Andrew Gainey assumed duties as the Commander of the 1st Infantry Division Forward during the Transfer of Authority ceremony.
“The 1st Infantry Division is proud to return to Poland to once again demonstrate our continuous commitment in Europe and deterring any nation that threatens the NATO allies and our partners,” Gainey said.
The deployment of ready, combat-credible U.S. forces to Europe in support of Atlantic Resolve is evidence of the strong and unremitting U.S. commitment to NATO and Europe. Through continuous, multinational training and security cooperation activities, Atlantic Resolve builds readiness, increases interoperability and enhances the bond between ally and partner militaries.
