Media Advisory – DEFENDER-Europe 21 media opportunities in Albania, Estonia, virtually

WIESBADEN, Germany – U.S. Army Europe and Africa invites members of the press to participate in upcoming scheduled media events for DEFENDER-Europe 21. All events are subject to change and limitations based on the evolving COVID-19 situation.  

Albania 

  • May 1 – Members of the media will be able to observe the U.S. Joint Logistics Over the Shore exercise, where a sealift ship, the USNS Bob Hope, will demonstrate the discharge and download of heavy equipment onto smaller vessels that will transfer the cargo to shore for onward movement for the first time since WWII. Interviews available with U.S. and Albanian military leaders. This in-person opportunity is very limited. Journalists who would like to be considered should provide their credentials to USArmyEurope.MediaDesk@mail.mil as soon as possible. 

 

Estonia 

  • May 5 – A Multiple Launch Rocket System live fire at the Tapa training area in Estonia as part of exercise Swift Response. This event will likely only be open to local media representatives. Journalists interested should email USArmyEurope.MediaDesk@mail.mil

 

Virtual 

  • May 4 – Maj. Gen. Christopher Donahue, 82nd Airborne Division commanding general, will conduct a virtual media roundtable to discuss the unit’s participation in DEFENDER-Europe 21 and their airborne operations in Estonia, Romania and Lithuania. A limited number of journalists will be invited, those interested should email USArmyEurope.MediaDesk@mail.mil as soon as possible.   

 

Weekly updates to DEFENDER-Europe 21 media events are published each Wednesday.  

 

When possible, U.S. Army Europe and Africa will provide live streaming of events on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/USArmyEURAF. Photos, videos, news stories and b-roll packages of each event will be posted to www.dvidshub.net/feature/DefenderEurope. All products are public domain and can be used by any media outlet. Media representatives can create a free account to download high resolution versions of the products.  

 

Due to the current COVID-19 environment, only a limited number of media can participate. COVID-19 mitigation measures vary by each country and entry requirements are specific to the nations you’re traveling out of and in to. Media interested in attending are responsible for verifying their specific requirements and should consult their respective embassy for further clarification.
