MEDIA ADVISORY - French and U.S. Army demonstrate artillery in Canjuers

Feb. 23, 2021

CANJUERS, France —

The U.S. Army’s 4th Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, in cooperation with the French 93ème Régiment d'Artillerie de Montagne will conduct the first ever live fire by the U.S. Army in Europe of the Bonus Mk 2 artillery round at Camp Canjuers, March 7, 2021.

The Bonus Mk 2 artillery round is a combined French and Swedish produced artillery shell that has been procured by the U.S. Army and now fielded in the European theater. The round is designed to target and destroy stationary and mobile armored vehicles, such as main battle tanks. It is an autonomous fire and forget all weather 155mm projectile containing 2 top attack submunitions. These submunitions are ejected over armored targets, perform a decreasing spiral scan, detect the target, initiate the warhead and then penetrate the target.

The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army’s Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces for Combatant Commanders in the Africa, Central and European Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build partnerships and strengthen the alliance.
