Press Release: Edelweiss Lodge and Resort staff test positive for COVID-19

Sept. 12, 2020

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany —

Several staff members of the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort here have tested positive for COVID-19.

As a precaution, additional staff members who had prolonged, direct contact with the positive staff members have also been quarantined. The facility is working with U.S. Army medical professionals and local medical officials to assess the situation and conduct contact tracing.

Due to the number of staff members affected, the decision has been made to close the resort for two weeks beginning Monday, Sept. 14.

The health, safety and welfare of the resorts guests, staff and the surrounding community are a top priority for the organization. Military leaders are keeping local organizations and host nation officials informed.

Anyone who has visited the resort since Sept. 3 should monitor for any symptoms and seek medical care if symptoms develop. Typical symptoms for COVID-19 can include, but are not limited to: a temperature at or above 100° Fahrenheit, night sweats or chills, a persistent cough, and/or shortness of breath. Individuals must be free of fever reducing medications (ibuprofen, acetaminophen, etc.) when evaluating symptoms.

As always, take precautions to watch your distance, wash your hands and properly wear your masks when you’re not able to keep physical distancing to decrease the chances of contracting the virus.
