WIESBADEN, Germany —

At the request of the host nations of Belgium and Luxembourg, U.S. troops and equipment in Europe and the U.S. will participate in various events Dec. 13-16, to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. The battle, named for the counter attack led by Allied forces between December 1944 and January 1945, was a decisive moment in World War II as the last major German offensive on the western front.

U.S. participation will include personnel from 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, whose division has lineage to the Siege of Bastogne.

Several events will feature WWII veterans participating side-by-side with active duty service members from lineage units. The Battle of the Bulge ceremonies provide an opportunity to recognize and honor the men and women of the Greatest Generation in the communities where the historic battle was fought and reflect upon the generations of U.S. service members stationed in Europe who continue to contribute to its collective defense and cooperative security.
