Dagger Brigade to pass Atlantic Resolve mission to Ironhorse Brigade

May 25, 2018

ZAGAN, Poland —

ZAGAN, Poland – The 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team “Dagger Brigade,” 1st Infantry Division, will conduct a relief in place ceremony with the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team “Ironhorse Brigade,” 1st Cavalry Division, at 10 a.m. June 4, at the Zagan Cultural Palace in downtown Zagan.

During the ceremony, the Dagger Brigade will case its colors and the Ironhorse Brigade colors will be uncased to signify the Ironhorse Brigade’s assumption of the Atlantic Resolve mission as U.S. Army Europe’s regionally allocated land force. The ceremony marks the second formal handover between heavy brigades as the U.S. Army provides a continuous armored brigade presence in Europe to deter aggression against NATO Allies and partners.

The ceremony indicates the Ironhorse Brigade is “ready to fight” after transporting its full equipment set of tanks, fighting vehicles and other armored equipment to Poland from its home station of Fort Hood, Texas. The occasion also signifies that the Dagger Brigade can return its 3,000 Soldiers and equipment to its home station of Fort Riley, Kansas.

The Dagger Brigade arrived to Europe in September 2017 as the second iteration of “heel-to-toe” rotations of armored brigade combat teams to Europe in support of Atlantic Resolve.

The Ironhorse Brigade will continue to train alongside NATO allies and other partners to increase interoperability with other nations and deter aggression in the region.
